Intimations
I offer these interpretations in humility, deeply aware of their imperfections; and greatly indebted for the efforts of those who have preceded me in this endeavor: Abdullah Yusuf Ali, Mohammad M. Pickthall, A. J. Arberry, Muhammad Asad, and M. A. S. Abdel Haleem.
Al-Fatiha:
Allaah. All our journeys begin with You.
In Your blessed name: Ar-Rahmaan, Ar-Raheem.
Only God commands glory and our praise.
Lord: sustaining the worlds He creates.
He possesses all the stores of mercy.
He never stops dispensing mercy.
Sovereign He is of the Accounts.
In worship, we bow only before You.
In want, we turn only to You.
Guide us to the path that is straight
the path of the ones You have blessed
not of those You have cursed
nor of those who cannot find their way.
Ar-Rahmaan:
He is Rahmaan: He taught the Qur’aan.
He made Insaan: taught him Bayaan.
